"A few nurses are going to join us in a few minutes. We're going to perform some of the basic screening procedures on you: blood pressure, visual acuity, pupillary reaction, and so on. We need to first make sure everything is okay before we can proceed.”
“Proceed with what?” I look at the patients around me. I wonder how long they’ve been unconscious and if I’ll be in the same condition in a matter of hours.
A blaring sound fills the room. Red lights flashing, blinding. Dr. Hamilton looks around frantically as nurses run into the room. I recognize Nurse Heidi.
I can’t think straight. Each time the alarm blares it disrupts my thoughts. I can hear Dr. Hamilton shouting out orders, but I can’t determine if any of them are directed at me. Then I realize Nurse Heidi is running towards me with a panicked look on her face.
